Well I know it has been a long time since I have last posted on my blog, and I have been going on and on with school and the demands of life. I hope that does not sound like my life takes on a labyrinthine style, although I will have to admit it does sometimes seem like so.
The past couple of weeks I have finished projects such as a 25 page paper on the Book of Daniel, a fifteen page paper on the concept of idolatry within the Old Testament Prophets, and another 25 page paper on the Book of Hebrews. All of this within about a week-and-a-half's worth of time. Hence why I have absolutely slacked on my blog posts. :)
I have loved exploring the idea of idolatry within the specific area of the Old Testament prophets, and the Nation of Israel and its habitual begrudging spirit in regards to their relationship with God. The prophet Jeremiah prophecies against the people and their adulterous status in Jeremiah 2. This prophecy of condemnation against the Nation is saturated with explicit sins and imagery, explaining the Nation's sin and choices of harlotry. One of the reasons I have enjoyed scrutinizing this portion of Scripture is the relevance for us today as people living in 21st century America. Just reading through this specific chapter I was convicted in my own life, broken for our churches, and and shamed for the countless lives that are adulterous throughout our nation.
An idea that I am engaged in by attempting to flesh out more principles relating to this topic is the notion that idolatry by the Nation has led to the famine of the Word of God. The prophet Amos foretold of a time to come where God would literally remove His Word from the people. They would not be able to find it, even if they searched into the depths of the sea. Unfortunately, I see many parallels today as the church and the world has moved away from the Jesus and God of the Bible and have begun to concoct their own versions of God, missing the true revelation of the character and being of God.
The Israelite King Josiah discovered the Word of God, which had been missing in the land for some time, only when the destruction of idols began to take place. When God was placed back in His rightful position, the Word of God reemerged.
I do not have time to go into some of the rudimentary arguments that I have stumbled across in my own study, but what I do know, is that we as people must continue to remain faithful in presenting God and staying true to His character as revealed in the Scripture. I am ashamed to say that Israel, along with much of humanity (more specifically the church), must be careful to not replace God with something other than Himself, or make Him into something He is not. The Word of God is already under attack....
Needless to say, I am fascinated by all the outworking that occurs as I give my life to the Scriptures. God speaks, I want to be the one listening, even if no one else can hear.
By the way, the Portland Trailblazers evened the series with Houston back up at one a piece. Roy and Aldridge, it's up to you!
